Risikofaktor für die Weltwirtschaft: das Coronavirus

Edgar Walk, Chefvolkswirt Metzler Asset Management, beschäftigt sich in seinem Kapitalmarktausblick auf die nächste Woche mit den ungewissen Effekten des Risikofaktors „Coronavirus“ auf die Weltwirtschaft. Bei einer ähnlichen Entwicklung wie bei einer „normalen Grippewelle“ und Business as usual würde die neue Erkrankung der Konjunktur nur einen leichten Dämpfer versetzen. Dagegen sei mit stärkeren negativen Effekten auf die Weltwirtschaft zu rechnen, falls das Virus umfangreichere Quarantäne- und sonstige Abwehrmaßnahmen erfordern sollte. Zudem erläutert Walk die Ergebnisse zweier neuer Studien – einerseits zum Einfluss von Trump-Tweets auf die Politik der US-Notenbank, andererseits zur Wertentwicklung von in britischen Pfund und/oder US-Dollar begebenen Staatsanleihen von 91 Schwellenländern seit 1815.

Edgar Walk joined Metzler in 2000. As Chief Economist in the asset management division, he is responsible for formulating our global economic outlook. Due to his close cooperation with the portfolio management, he focuses on capital market themes as well as on global economic analyses. Mr. Walk holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Tübingen in Germany and spent a semester at the University of Doshisha in Kyoto, Japan. In addition, he completed the program “Advanced Studies in International Economic Policy Research“ at the Institute of World Economy in Kiel, Germany.
