Metzler meets Fraunhofer – “Green hydrogen: a source of energy for Net Zero 2050“

February 23, 2021 – online edition

Hydrogen is an important building block for achieving the ambitious goal of climate neutrality in Germany and the European Union by 2050. Hydrogen as a basic chemical and a source of energy is nothing new, but with the climate crisis worsening, it’s experiencing a renaissance. It comes in many colors, depending on how it’s produced, but only the green kind – produced with electricity from 100% renewable energies – can achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. Prof. Christopher Hebling, Head of Hydrogen Technologies at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, will talk about the extent to which hydrogen is essential for achieving a climate turnaround, the opportunities and risks involved, and the current status of research.

Metzler meets Fraunhofer – “A defossilized future: green hydrogen for heating, transport and industry“

June 8, 2021 – Frankfurt/Main

Green hydrogen is essential for Germany and the European Union to achieve their ambitious "net zero" climate goals by 2050. The European Commission introduced its hydrogen strategy in July of 2020 and promised investments of nearly EUR 500 billion along the value-added chain of green hydrogen technology. However, many questions about green hydrogen production, infrastructure, storage and possible applications still remain unanswered. Professor Christopher Hebling, Head of Hydrogen Technologies at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE will talk about the current status of research, concrete application examples and the hurdles to be overcome on the way to a defossilized future.
