Metzler meets Fraunhofer – Power to X

June 16, 2020 – Frankfurt/Main

The energy turnaround and climate targets make it necessary to step up expansion of renewable energies. However, generation of electricity from solar energy and wind power is very irregular; production spurts and lulls make efficient storage concepts necessary. With "Power to X" technology, excess electricity can be used to produce hydrogen which, in turn, can be used to decarbonize our energy and transport systems.  However, the production process is currently still very energy-intensive. Dr. Christopher Hebling, Division Manager at Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Technologies and Systems, speaks about the current status of research.

Metzler meets Fraunhofer – Circular Plastic Economy

October 22, 2020 – Frankfurt/Main

Plastic is extremely practical and it’s hard to imagine life without it, but it’s becoming a problem. Large quantities of plastic waste are being dumped into our oceans and are thus polluting our environment with grave consequences. Microplastics can already be detected in our food chain, drinking water and even in the air. However, plastics can be recycled. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Weidner, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology, speaks about how a circular plastic economy can be introduced.
