The small- and mid-cap market is highly diverse. Some companies have higher-risk business models and less experienced management teams. Others stand out with innovative business models, long-term strategies, strong financial positions, and significant growth potential.
Across our small- and mid-cap strategies, we look for companies that are focused and strongly positioned within their respective niches. Our many years of experience and specialized research processes enable us to capitalize on the information inefficiencies of this under-researched market. We select growth companies whose potential, in our view, is not yet fully reflected in their valuations – “Growth at a Reasonable Price.”
Our goal: Identify and bring together the potential of lesser-known companies.
The German and European small- and mid-cap universe is large and diverse, offering opportunities that can go unnoticed. It includes smaller companies with a high degree of adaptability and the potential to grow independently of the economic cycle.
With the Metzler German Smaller Companies strategy, we invest in approximately 50 to 60 companies from the German small- and mid-cap segment. The Metzler European Smaller Companies portfolio comprises approximately 60 to 90 very small- to mid-sized European companies. We focus on companies with market capitalizations between €500 million and €7 billion.
Active judgment and direct access to company management are particularly important in this inefficient market segment. Drawing on many years of experience and using specially developed analytical tools and processes, we gain a deep understanding of business models and identify their potential.
Germany as a strategic focus
We provide access to German and European small- and mid-cap companies through the mutual funds Metzler German Smaller Companies and Metzler European Smaller Companies, which are available in different share classes.
Both small- and mid-cap strategies can also be implemented on an individual basis through dedicated institutional funds.
